Dental bridges are a common dental tool that is incredibly popular and almost invisible in their application. They are an affordable solution that is perfect for repairing gaps, replacing missing teeth, and preventing teeth from becoming misaligned and causing discomfort. Dental bridges are an excellent way to resolve these problems quickly and are approachable for many patients.

Fixed Dental Bridges: How Do They Work?

This restorative and cosmetic dentistry procedure is a permanent repair method that uses two existing teeth as anchor points for a bridge that replaces one or more teeth. There are three parts to a dental bridge:

  • AbutmentThis is the bridge’s foundation that is anchored to the existing teeth.
  • Crown: This is placed onto the abutment to hold the Pontic.
  • Pontic: This is the replacement tooth or teeth that fill the empty space between the anchor points.

Prior to a bridge being inserted, it will be necessary for the dentist to prepare the adjacent teeth by filing them down to serve as anchors. A mold of the teeth will be taken to aid in the creation of the permanent bridge, and a temporary one will be put in in the interim. Once the permanent one arrives, your dentist will remove the temporary bridge and permanently affix the new one in place.

What Options Are There For Dental Bridges?

After a comprehensive exam, your dentist will determine if porcelain fixed bridges are right for you. There are other types of dental bridges, which include:

  • Ceramic and metal dental bridges
  • Temporary dental bridges
  • Resin-bonded, cantilever, and traditional permanent bridges.

In most cases, bridges will be bound to the teeth on either side of the gap. Cantilever bridges are different in that they are bound only on one side. Resin-bonded bridges are traditionally used to replace teeth located in the front of the mouth as they are more visible and less subject to wear and tear from biting.

Benefits of Dental Bridges

Dental bridges come with a variety of benefits, including:

  • Perfect For Instantly Correcting Gaps: This cosmetic and restorative treatment is perfect for replacing teeth that are missing easily. This procedure is non-surgical in nature and helps prevent teeth from shifting. This can cause issues with hygiene, sensitivity, pain, and problems with their bite and jaw.
  • Restore Clear Speech: Teeth that are missing often result in difficulty shaping the mouth for certain parts of speech. These concerns can be eliminated with the introduction of a dental bridge.
  • Improve Hygiene: Gaps in the teeth can make good oral hygiene difficult to maintain due to problems caused by shifting teeth.
  • Resilient: This restoration is known for being a long-term solution, capable of lasting up to twenty years.

How Much Do Dental Bridges Cost?

The durability of porcelain fixed bridges is just one of the reasons they’re a popular choice for restorative dentistry. At a price point of $1-3,000, they certainly give a great return for your investment, especially when compared to other methods of restoring missing teeth. It is possible that your dental plan may cover some or all of your dental bridges.
